Just 10 minutes down the road from La Maison des Amis, is the pretty market town of Lavaur. Lavaur is a charming fortified town on the banks of the Agout, with an old C13th and C14th quarter, Romanesque cathedral, park and small kids play park. The town has a variety of boutiques, shops, chemists, butchers, traiteurs (prepared regional foods), cafes and restaurants, delicatessens and wine merchants. There is a market every Saturday from 7am to 1.30pm. Set under the cover of large plane trees. It is open rain or shine and is a must for quality local produce, offering bread, local cheeses, fois gras, organic vegetables, live produce, beds, tractors, clothes. It’s very French!
